As a photographer it's always a little nerve wracking to photograph another photographer, or a duo of photographers as is the case of this session for Kiara and Jonathan from The Mango Market Photography based in Charlotte, North Carolina. The guys wrote to us suggesting we exchange photoshoots for each other and seeing their beautiful portfolio we immediately fell in love with their style. But of course we couldn't just do something ordinary, so we got creative.
This little Paris Travel couple session ended up being very special for Anastasia and I as it's the first time we shot together as hybrid photographers. What this means is that a half of the images you see here are shot on 35mm Fujicolor Superia X-tra 400 film using Canon EOS3 analog camera, then developed and scanned by Carmencita Lab in Spain. The rest of the digital images we then processed to match the colors and the feeling of the film images.
You may notice that the images look a bit darker and moodier than the usual fine art film prints one sees so often these days. This is done on purpose to match the aesthetic of The Mango Market photographs as well as our personal style. An important part in following our aesthetic is the choice of film used for the shoot. Superia is not considered to be a regular fine art film - it's cheaper and its colors are a bit muddier than let's say Fuji 400H Pro or Kodak Portra, so it makes it perfect to match digital Tribe Archipelago editing Kiara and Jonathan use in their work.
Locations we used for this session are all in the area of Paris called Le Marais. We started with Jardin de l'Hotel de Sully, walked through Place des Vosges, and finished at Square Saint-Gilles du Grand Veneur. All in all we had a lot of fun experimenting with these two lovebirds and hope you enjoy the photos as much as we do!
